Young Adult Transitional Housing Program - Life Builders

Kodiak Island Housing Authority, in response to the lack of available housing and programming available for young adults with limited resources, is opening a new Young Adult Housing Program called Life Builders in August 2010.

Life Builders is a transitional living program designed to provide young adults with the opportunity to pursue employment, education, vocational training, and life skills in a safe and healthy living environment. The program is housed in a duplex in Kodiak with space available for 9 residents. This program is staffed 24 hours.

Available to assist residents are a self sufficiency coordinator, a case manager and an evening live in staff member. Weekends are covered with relief staff. This program offers young adults a 6-18 month living arrangement while gaining resources, skills and education/training to successfully transition to independent living.

Mission Statement:

Kodiak Island Housing Authority’s Young Adult Transitional Housing Program’s mission is to provide residential programming through congregate living which is designed to provide opportunities and supervised assistance to young adults, ages 18-22, as they transition to independent living and self sufficiency.

Program Description:

The program is composed of individually designed plans for each resident that are needs-based and goal oriented and may include: Case management, employment assistance, educational supports, independent living skills, healthy relationship skills, healthy life style choices and any necessary referrals; while individuals are living in a safe, sanitary, decent and affordable home with supportive adults.
